Carinda Christie Solo to Trio
After years of playing with bands at the end of 2000 Carinda decided to pick up her well loved acoustic guitar and travel Solo, singing her originals and selling her albums. From Festivals such as The Woodford Folk Festival Qld to the 2001 Goodwill Games. The venue whether big or small, the audience is captured within her spell.
Carinda plays acoustic guitar, Dobro Slide guitar, Ukulele, Keyboard and stomp box and lights up the show with humorous and entertaining anecdotes about life and music.
Music goes back a way in Carinda’s family; both parents musicians from a long line.
Playing guitar, piano, writing poetry and singing as a youngster she dreamed of entertaining. At nineteen she picked up her brothers guitar and starting singing professionally and has never stopped.
“As I am” released in 2000 followed to rave reviews.
In January 2001 Carinda toured solidly up and down the East Coast of Australia. “Close Up” her solo raw stripped back album was released in 2002. Playing solo taught Carinda to play differently filling in for all the other instrument with just a Guitar and stomp box. Her Rhythm style on guitar grew and with that so did her voice.
“Blue Mumma” was released in 2005 after Carinda teamed up with Drummer Ben Hakalitz (Youthi Yindi) and Giles Smith (Dragon, John Williamson Bands to name a few). This was another stripped back album that has become a household favorite Australia wide.
2010 was the release of “Cruel” with big band backing and plenty of guest artists. An album straight from the heart, with songs about her family and farm life.
Life was quiet for a few years while raising her 3 children. In 2014 Carinda was playing at a party and jammed with Jason Donnelly (lead Guitarist and vocalist) which turned into a long musical friendship, the Duo was formed.
In 2016 Mark Trimboli (drummer) her neighbour decided to jam and than there was three.
Carinda has introduced Keyboard and Ukulele to the show and with her funny antics brings laughter.
The Carinda Christie Trio has been playing together ever since and Carinda just loves the dynamic of the group.
“Its simple and easy and we all just get along with each other so beautifully”, Carinda says.
The journey has found her playing in Venues such as the famous Johnos Blues Bar in Cairns, to Festivals Australia wide. Carinda has released six original albums and supported some amazing artists from Billy Thorpe, Grace Knight, Joe Camilleri to Wendy Matthews and many more. If you see her playing at a venue near you don’t hesitate you know you will have a night to remember.
